Balloons Over Anderson
November 6th - 8th, 2009
Anderson Civic Center
Anderson, SC
Steve and Connie Lambert, owners of a hot air balloon company named SkyScapes of America, LLC along with Jack and Margaret Cothran and Debby Porter have the combined knowledge and love of ballooning to bring a balloon festival back to Anderson, SC. We, along with a group of interested people and volunteers are organizing a hot air balloon festival in Anderson, South Carolina. A fall festival is planned to showcase the colorful landscape. A small festival is planned the first year, about 25 balloons, with the festival date set for November 6, 7 and 8, 2009.
There will be no competition flights at this festival, and therefore no prize money. A fun, old-fashioned festival is being planned where passenger flights will be offered.
You will love the show with other flying objects by the Fire Tower Flyers remote control airplane club and the Flying Tigers Skydiving Team. The Flying Tigers are very excited about the possibility of jumping from a balloon. Four flights are scheduled and two dedicated tethered balloons. We are also hoping to have kite demonstrations. We have planned two evening glows, Friday and Saturday, where half of the balloons will glow each evening. Other activities are in the planning stages and will update all pilots via email as we progress.
We have obtained full support of both the City of Anderson and Anderson County with regards to the logistical support including police, fire and sanitation necessary for such a festival. Anderson County has also agreed to allow us the use of the local Civic Center grounds on which to conduct the festival at no charge. The grounds include an approximate 35-acre launch field previously improved for a hot air balloon festival as well as ample grass parking areas around the launch field.
It is our intent to plan, organize and conduct the hot air balloon festival through a newly formed Limited Liability Company called Anderson Air Sports. Anderson Air Sports, LLC will assume all responsibilities for the balloon festival including raising the money necessary to put the festival on. In the future we plan to create a non-profit corporation, (501.c.3) which will assume all future responsibilities for the balloon festival and other possible events that we may sponsor.
